A Day In The Life Of A Complex Manager

Posting date: 22/12/2022

Have you ever wondered just what is a Complex Manager? Well, we have the answer! A real-life look into one of our Complex Manager superstars with what he gets up to in a day here at Parkdean.

Today, Ryan joins us from Sandy Bay Holiday Park and shares all about daily life as a Holiday Park Complex Manager.

Can you tell us what you do in a day?

My day as Complex Manager begins with the all-important checks that ensure we stay compliant. From reports and budgets to team motivation and stock checks, there’s a lot of variety in my day-to-day, so time management is really key.

After my morning compliance checks are out the way, I move on to checking the team’s hours and the rota for the week, making sure everything is correct for the weekly wages.

By 9 am, I make sure I’m front-of-house with my team checking in on each and every one of them. We usually have a team huddle in the morning where I like to check in, making sure we’re good for the day and we all know what we’re doing. It’s important to always keep an eye on team well-being and development when you’re a manager!

Once check-out breakfast is done, I get onto stock checks and back to the office for compliance checks, emails and any other admin bits.

Making sure that everything is in place for the week, especially for my day off, is really important - I need to know the team is all set and good to go. My number two usually steps in here which is great.

What are some of your favourite things about life as a Holiday Park Complex Manager?

No two days are the same as Complex Manager here at Sandy Bay Holiday Park. I’ve been here for over two years now and we’ve had a massive development focus for the people of Sandy Bay, helping them to create a career with Parkdean Resorts and have a long-term vision.

My day-to-day is heavily focused on my team and investing in them. I’ve been in the hospitality industry for 16 years now so I can understand how difficult it can be at times and how important it is to develop a long-term plan. There’s actually a lot of career progression in hospitality!

I like to make sure I’m a team player and always on my team’s side, I’m sure they know that. I have trust in my team, and they trust me. The Parkdean spirit helps make us all feel like a family!

What are your biggest achievements so far?

My biggest accomplishment here at Parkdean is my team - I’ve developed a strong team here from seasonal to established and make sure apprenticeships are offered to permanent team members.

I aim to have my team come on board with the idea that this can become a career and is not just a job. Developing my approachability with my teams so they understand they can always come to me helps keep motivation levels high, especially during peak times. They know I’m always there for them that’s the main thing.

What’s your experience like with development opportunities at Parkdean?

Parkdean Resorts is certainly a place where you can develop and grow. For example, I’m on the ‘Better Than Me’ course for the next year and not too long ago I was in Fallbourough with the GM’S as a top performer.

My General Manager personally always takes the time to speak with me and make sure I’m on track. So that support and development is always there.
