From Activities to Training Champion: Lifeguard jobs with Parkdean Resorts

Posting date: 18/02/2025

At Parkdean Resorts, we’re passionate about seeing our team grow, develop, and achieve their goals. We also know there’s real value in showing off our team member’s success stories!

One of the best parts of working here is the opportunity to progress, learn new skills, and take on exciting new challenges. Our leisure jobs offer the perfect chance to do just that and Samuel from Wemyss Bay is a perfect example of this. His journey from an Activities team member to a Training Champion is truly inspiring. Here’s what he had to say about his experience within Parkdean’s leisure centre jobs.

Starting out

Samuel joined Parkdean Resorts at Wemyss Bay four seasons ago, beginning his journey in the Activities team. He quickly embraced the role and soon had the opportunity to complete his NPLQ Lifeguard course, a qualification that allowed him to take on a new challenge within the team.

“I started off doing activities and then got a chance to do my NPLQ Lifeguard course here at Wemyss Bay.”

The support and encouragement from his team helped him take this step forward in his career. And that was just the beginning!

Progressing to Supervisor & beyond

After gaining his lifeguard qualification, Samuel continued to develop and grow within Parkdean Resorts. His hard work and dedication led him to a Supervisor role, where he took on more responsibilities and honed his leadership skills.

“From then, I progressed on to a Supervisor. I also got the opportunity to do the Best in Field Management course last year, which was one of my highlights of working here.”

The Best in Field Management course was a standout moment in his journey, providing him with valuable leadership experience and further preparing him for the next stage in his career. If you’re wondering what this means, it’s a pipeline of talent to fill Activities and Leisure Manager vacancies and to give crisis cover to parks during shortfalls in management support.

Becoming a Trainer Assessor & Training Champion

Samuel’s passion for learning and development didn’t stop there. Through the Best in Field Management course, he was also given the chance to complete the Trainer Assessor course at St Minver, equipping him with the skills to train others.

This season, Samuel has taken another major step forward in his career. He is now part of Parkdean Resorts’ Training Champion programme, where he travels to different parks to train activity staff and lifeguards, helping others develop just as he did. And we’re so proud of him!

“For this season, I’m now part of the Training Champion programme, where I get the chance to go out to parks and train all their activity staff and lifeguards as well.”

The support that made it possible

One of the key factors in Samuel’s success has been the support from his manager and the central team. He highlights how much they have encouraged him and helped him develop, not just as an employee but as a person.

“Parkdean’s been a huge part of my life the past couple of years, and it’s really helped me develop not just my skills in work, but who I am as a person. My boss, Murray, as well as the central team, have really helped me develop everything about me, and they’ve been supportive in any sense.”

Advice for new applicants

If you’re thinking about applying for a role at Parkdean Resorts, Samuel’s advice is simple: go for it! Whether you have experience or not, Parkdean Resorts provides all the training and support you need to succeed.

“You can be any level. You can start off, never running an activity, not knowing too much about pools, or anything like that. I was in that position, and you just got all the support. You can go from not having anything, knowing about leisure or housekeeping, any department, and there’s always support in any department, any place. There’s always help there for you.”

Dive into a fulfilling lifeguard job at Parkdean Resorts
