What it’s like to be an Activity and Leisure Manager

In this blog, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Kim, our Pool and Activities Manager (also known as a Leisure Manager!) at Bideford Bay. Kim plays a key role in ensuring every guest has an amazing time, from keeping the pools safe and sparkling to running exciting activities for all ages.

A Typical Day at Work as a Leisure Manager

My day starts with opening the building and performing the first safety checks. Ensuring the pools are running safely and to the right parameters is a top priority, and I also check all areas of the Activities and Leisure (A&L) department to make sure everything is ready for the day ahead.

Throughout the day, I’m responsible for conducting pool tests, running exciting activities for guests, lifeguarding, and keeping all areas clean and up to date. I also manage behind-the-scenes tasks like placing orders and ensuring all team rotas are current. It’s a varied and dynamic role that keeps me busy, but it’s always fulfilling.

Exciting Highlights and Opportunities

This summer, we won an incentive, and I was able to take one of my team with me on an all-expenses-paid trip to Prague. It was such a memorable experience and a great way to celebrate our hard work.

I’ve also gained some amazing qualifications during my time here. These include my Trainer Assessors Award, which allows me to run National Pool Lifeguard Qualifications (NPLQs) and staff training, as well as my Pool Plant Operator Qualification. I’ve received training in Legionella prevention and fire safety too. The opportunities to learn and grow in this role have been fantastic, and I’m always developing new skills.
