Posting date: 30/07/2024

You’ve found yourself researching food and beverage jobs, have you?

Maybe you’re looking for something a bit outside of the standard 9 - 5 desk-bound job and you fancy stepping into the buzzing holiday park industry. Or maybe you’re a student looking for work to fill time in your summer break away from studying.

Whatever led you here, we’re here to answer your questions on exactly what work is done in food and beverage when it comes to bar and waiting jobs.

Our hospitality heroes in F&B are involved in a whole range of daily activities to keep the drinks flowing, the food served and the guests adding extra to their orders!

We’ll dive into what bar and waiting roles have in store for you at Parkdean as well as dishing out some of the career progression and serving up the skills and qualities you need to thrive.

What are the roles of bar staff?

The fantastic bar staff in the F&B team work closely with our guests to make sure their every food and drink request is met and it’s always service with a smile.

You could find yourself working in any of our beautiful locations - from Scotland to Cornwall, we’ve got parks all over!

Here’s some of what makes up bar staff responsibilities :

  • Keeping on top of all things stocking and cleaning.
  • Handling cash and counting up after shifts.
  • Mixing drinks and serving orders.
  • Preparing the bar for great service.

No matter what you get up to in your shift, you can be sure it’s going to be filled with fun, teamwork, and buckets full of Parkdean passion.

What are the duties of waiting staff?

When you hop on board the waiting team at Parkdean, you’ll be serving up smiles and delighting our guests on the daily in one of our smashing parks.

Some waiting staff duties include:

  • Table service, breakfast area set-up, and topping up buffets.
  • Greeting guests, handing out menus, and taking orders.
  • Serving up some super dishes from the kitchen.
  • Keeping tables sparkling clean.

Career Progression

If you’re keen on progressing in hospitality, the next step for you after working in our bar or waiting roles might be into a supervisory role.

Our F&B and Bar Supervisors are the experts when it comes to managing offers and promotions, keeping an eye on stock levels and profits, and being the team cheerleader in terms of training and development.

If you fancy trying your hand in other areas across Parkdean, all of our roles offer clear career pathways for those looking to progress, we offer training workshops and apprenticeships too!

What are food and beverage skills?

So, you’re hooked on the idea of working a food and beverage job, but what skills do you need?

We’ve broken down a few below (and don’t be discouraged if you don’t meet these! We’re pretty big at on-the-job training here at Parkdean):

  • Customer service - because every guest needs a friendly face to make them feel welcomed.
  • Communication skills - after all, you’ve got to be clear and effective whether you’re talking to guests or taking updates to our kitchen team.

  • Attention to detail - so you can get the right order, every time.
