Are Seasonal Jobs Worth It? 5 Reasons We Think So!
Seasonal roles might be overlooked sometimes, but we’re here to tell you why they’re actually great for your career and skills-building.
Don’t get us wrong, we do understand why some people prefer a traditional, full-time, office-based 9-5, but seasonal jobs come with a whole host of benefits too. We’re here to answer your questions and tell you why you should be applying to these roles!
5 reasons we think seasonal jobs are worth it
1. Pick up new skills
Did you ever consider seasonal jobs as the perfect way to fill out your CV with new transferable skills? No? Well, now you should!
Summer jobs at Parkdean could see you working in a variety of our park roles and departments. Whether you land a summer role in accommodation, food and beverage, entertainment, or something different, you can proudly say you’ve got experience in holiday park life, teamwork and communication skills, and you know a thing or two about time management.
We’ll let you in on a little secret—hiring managers love to see the above skills.
2. Meet new people
This doesn’t really need explaining!
No matter where in the UK you join us from, you’ll get to network with like-minded people from all different walks of life. You never know when expanding your network will help you in your future career, so it’s important to always keep it in mind.
3. Flexibilty
At Parkdean, we’re big on looking after our people. We understand that your personal life needs time and attention too which is another reason seasonal jobs can be great to fit around what you’ve got going on!
Whether you’re a student, a teacher on your summer holiday, amid a career break, or retired, seasonal jobs can provide flexibility to many different people.
Make sure to check out our benefits so you know what else you can take advantage of when you join us.
4. Extra income
It’s always nice to have some extra income, and that’s another reason seasonal jobs are worth it.
As we said before, seasonal jobs can be great for students, retirees, and even teachers looking for something extra to do in their summer holidays; the additional income is the cherry on top.
5. Exploring what you like
So far, we’ve listed gaining new skills, meeting new people, flexibility, and earning an extra income as reasons why we think seasonal jobs are totally worth it.
Our final point to mention is that these kinds of roles allow you to really explore what kinds of things you like and enjoy.
When you step into seasonal roles with Parkdean, you can try your hand at housekeeping roles, food and beverage roles, entertainment roles, and more. This can be the fantastic first step in your career, especially if you’re overwhelmed by all the choices out there.
FAQs
When should you apply for seasonal jobs?
At Parkdean, for example, our roles open in March and run through to the October half-term. Some of our bigger parks are open for Christmas, too! - definitely keep an eye on our jobs during these times, you can even sign up for our job alerts!
Can seasonal jobs become permanent?
At Parkdean, they can!
We’re big on internal mobility here, so even if you’re role is just for the summer, nothing is stopping you from seeking our permanent head office opportunities or branching into holiday home sales or park management.
In fact, if you’re looking for an example of a Parkdeaner who has done just that, let us introduce you to Kristian Evans.
Kristian started his career with us at 19 years old as a Lifeguard. Fast forward to today, and he’s now a National Sales Director supporting our parks up and down the country!
How do seasonal jobs work?
In industries like hospitality and retail, companies can use the extra hands at peak times of the year. This is when they open up seasonal and temporary positions to meet the extra demand during these busy seasons.
It’s good practice to apply for these jobs a few months before peak season.
Seasonal jobs at Parkdean Resorts are typically temporary roles that run during their peak holiday seasons, usually from spring (Easter) through summer and sometimes into autumn (school holidays, Halloween, etc.).
Our fixed-term contracts mean you’re hired for a set period, typically between March and April and September and October, depending on the park’s location and the duration of the season.
After you apply, you may have an interview and then an assessment, after which you’ll be onboarded before the season starts!
What seasonal jobs are hiring at Parkdean?
Where do we even begin?! In a nutshell, we hire for a lot of seasonal jobs every peak season. Here are some common seasonal roles we hire for:
- Lifeguards
- Bar Staff
- Food and Beverage Assistant
- Kitchen Assistant
- Waiting Staff
- Cleaner
