What are the typical career paths in the hospitality industry?
It’s no secret that the hospitality industry offers a wide range of diverse roles and career paths. If you’re someone who’s looking for something a little different from the standard 9-to-5, then hospitality jobs might just be the answer!
You might be thinking about different departments and the roles available in these, with the progression they can offer. We’re here to break that down for Food and Beverage (F&B) roles as well as our Accommodation roles.
Food and beverage jobs: career paths
There can be a lot of misconceptions about career progression when you work in F&B, so we’re here to clear up any myths and show you why it’s absolutely worth your time! Here at Parkdean, we make sure your career journey is as vibrant and exciting as our holiday destinations.
Here’s why our F&B roles are packed with progression:
- You might start out in temp hospitality jobs in F&B, but with the right passion, drive, and “go get 'em” attitude, we can help you upskill and move up the career ladder.
- With our endless internal mobility opportunities, you might start in an entry-level F&B role, but you could end up as a Complex Manager or even a Head Chef!
- We’re committed to providing the training, resources, and guidance you need to succeed. Our career pathways clearly demonstrate how you can achieve your career goals, especially when you can make the most out of our apprenticeships.
Maybe you’ll join us on the bar, in the kitchen, or waiting tables. These are all perfect examples of our seasonal offering. But after working at Parkdean for a bit, you might be thinking about what comes next. Well, here’s an example of a kitchen career pathway when you’re a Parkdeaner:
- Starting as a Kitchen Assistant, you could pick up some vital food safety and kitchen skills, and you might then realise that a chef career is on the cards for you! Well, next, you could look into entry-level chef roles, otherwise known as Commis Chef positions.
- Working as a Commis Chef opens up so many doors for your budding chef career, especially with us. After learning the ropes in these roles, you might fancy progressing to the next step in your chef journey. That would take you up to being a Chef de Partie.
- The next rungs of the ladder, so to speak, would be a Sous Chef, and then finally, a Head Chef.
There you have it - clear career progression in the kitchen at Parkdean Resorts.
FAQs
What are the duties of a food and beverage worker?
The answer to this greatly varies depending on the role or seniority you hold.
Generally speaking, an F&B team member helps prepare, serve, and deliver food and drink to guests, making sure that it’s always service with a smile! Guest satisfaction and working to health and safety standards are also key parts of these roles.
Is being a chef a good career?
We might be biased, but we certainly think so!
At Parkdean, our chef careers offer a whole range of perks and benefits that you can take advantage of the moment you join us. Don’t just take it from us, though. If you want a real-life insider look at our chef jobs, read Sakthikumar’s story.
Accommodation jobs: career paths
What’s the other “typical” hospitality career path? Accommodation roles. And we promise these are also full of career growth opportunities.
Here’s an overview of a career path in Accommodation:
- Depending on your experience, you might join us as a Linen Porter or a Cleaner/Venue Cleaner. In these roles, you’ll play a key role in keeping everything crisp, clean, and guest-ready. You really will be a behind-the-scenes star, and if you’ve got no experience don’t worry! If you’ve got buckets of passion, positivity, and Parkdean team spirit, we’ll set you up for success in your new roles.
- The next step for you might be as an Accommodation Supervisor. You’ll polish up your career and get to know our caravans and lodges back to front and inside out while inspiring your team to deliver high standards, always!
- Progressing upwards, you could land yourself an assistant management position. Naturally, after this, you could land an Accommodation Manager role.
FAQs
Can you make a career out of housekeeping?
Absolutely, you can!
As we referenced earlier, you could start out in entry-level housekeeping roles and gain the know-how and experience to become either an Accommodation Supervisor or Manager. Working your way up into these positions is a fantastic way to show off your leadership skills on your CV.
Is a housekeeping job hard?
We won’t sugarcoat it, these roles can be quite fast-paced. But if you’re someone who’s looking to hone your time-management and organisational skills, then these are the hospitality roles for you.
The role might not always be smooth sailing, but at Parkdean, you can take comfort in knowing you’ll be looked after by a cracking team every step of the way!
